Our firm has considerable planning experience with First Nation communities throughout Alberta. Our work includes community plans, master plans and subdivision development concepts. We are familiar with many of the Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) programs and services available to First Nations and have experience working with INAC representatives on a number of projects. Our project work has also given us an understanding of the unique social, financial and sustainable development issues often faced by First Nation groups.
Recent projects include:
Duncan's First Nation Community Development Plan. Identified priorities and strategies to guide the community's growth and well being over 10 years. Worked with the Chief, Council, administration, Western Cree Tribal Council and INAC and consulted with reserve residents. Produced a community development plan and a five-year capital plan that identified needed infrastructure improvements.
Enoch Cree Nation Entertainment Resort. As part of the project's Environmental Impact Assessment, conducted an assessment of the proposed development's land use, parking and traffic impacts on adjacent residential neighbourhoods in the City of Edmonton. Reviewed current practices and made recommendations for buffers to reduce visual and noise impacts.
Fort McKay First Nation Community Development Plan Update. Updated the First Nation's Community Plan to address socioeconomic development as well as physical development. Identified physical plan priorities, capital projects and sources of funding; and made recommendations on socioeconomic development that emphasized linkages to the region's oil sands development.
Frog Lake First Nation Residential Subdivision. Conducted analysis of 15-acre site on the Reserve. Produced concept plan for proposed subdivision development of 42 townhouse units. Subdivision was designed to be safe, attractive and affordable with consideration given to parking, traffic circulation, parks and open space.
Alexander First Nation Master Plan: Worked with the Chief and Council to develop master plans for eight key areas to aid Alexander First Nation in priority setting, decision making and resource allocation. Community members participated through a survey and public meeting.
